Your take on Goodreads is enlightening. I found it cumbersome to set up my author page, then found myself in a cesspool.

I agree. Goodreads has been of zero help to my goals as an author/illustrator in getting my books noticed. The UX annd UI of that site is so poorly designed that it makes it impossible to be of value.

Good point about the design, E.R.

Cesspool is a good way to put it Rona. Lots feel that way. I suspect changes are a foot.

Honestly I've found it the reverse, the Amazon review situation is going to pot while Goodreads is getting better, but I guess I'm the unusual one. Don't care for AI unless it's for spellcheck, but over-all an interesting analysis here.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'm glad you found my analysis interesting. All is definitely in a state of flux.

Agreed, it is weird.

I definitely think TikTok is going away, so there will be a move towards another site, perhaps Red Note, although that is Chinese owned, too, so there may be issues again with the U.S. Government.

Estelle, thank you for the information coming forth in the publishing world this year. There is so much to keep track of and keep up with - everything seems so fluid. I don't have the time to pursue the latest, not to mention that it is all overwhelming. As for Goodreads, I'm happy to hear that others have not found the site helpful.

It is overwhelming, I agree. Now with TikTok almost certainly going away, there are going to be other sites to explore, but I am not sure I'm going to go there -- yet.

Interesting takes! I also listened to your end-of-year podcast and found it helpful. I love that you have a more nuanced approach to AI. I tend to freak out about it, but my teen daughter uses it in ways that are actually helpful (developing a personalized skincare routine for one thing!🤯). I also appreciate your thoughts re: Substack. I wish there were a way to do smaller subscriptions, or a pay-per-post, because I absolutely want to support other writers, but the current structure only makes it feasible for many people (especially underpaid writers) to support a few.

Thanks so much Joy for commenting. I'm trying to be balanced with it, and I'm not pessimistic, as you heard in my podcast episode, but there is so much change happening that it requires careful thought and attention for the goals you need to pursue to make you happy. I always repeat the popular phrase, "put your own oxygen mask on first." There is a reason for that.
